A Beginners Guide to Eating Organic- Foods You Need to buy Organic and Why

I had never heard of the Dirty Dozen until I started looking more into healthy eating.  If you don’t know what this is, the Dirty Dozen lists top 12 fruits and vegetables that are high in Pesticide content and recommended to buy organic.

Who puts this list together? The Environmental Working Group compiles it annually, along with the Clean Fifteen produce grown with the least amount of pesticides. These lists are updated by the Pesticide Data Program, which is a pesticide monitoring program endorsed by the US government.

Here are the Top 12 Dirty Foods and why buying them organic will be beneficial to your health:

If you were wondering why you should buy organic foods, you now have a reason to spend a little much more on these foods.  According to the USDA, “Organic” sealed Produce must be grown using cultural, biological, and mechanical practices that support the cycling of on-farm resources, promote environmental balance, support plants, animals, fungi and micro-organisms.

Nearly 70% of fresh, non-organic produce sold in the United States contains residues of pesticides, and according to Californians for Pesticide Reform (CPR), pesticide can cause Chronic health effects that include cancer and other tumors; brain and nervous system damage; birth defects; infertility and other reproductive problems; and damage to the liver, kidneys, lungs and other body organs. Additionally, children are more vulnerable because they have a higher respiratory rate and so inhale airborne pesticides at a faster rate than adults.
